Ten Truths to Remember
Final Message to Teknon Theou

After 10 1/2 years of ministry, these are the 10 truths that pervade my teaching:

Prolegomenon

  • Mystery pervades all
  • The Bible is a means to an end (knowing God) and not the end itself

God

  • The Christian God is distinctly Triune
  • God is Christlike

Humanity

  • It is the greatest privilege to be an image-bearer of God
  • The goal of salvation is to be fully human

The Christian Life

  • Believe AND follow are inseparably united
  • True knowing is experiential
  • The goal of Christian spirituality is humble, self-giving love. This is true holiness

Church and Culture

  • The church exists for the world
  • Get Dirty! Jesus calls us to incarnational ministry

Just finished listening to your last TH message. Enjoyed your comments about the church as an organization &/or organism towards the end of your talk. Reminded me of what Bill Maher had to say last night on Larry King Live. Someone called in and asked Bill why he was so against God and religion. Bill responded that these are not the same thing. Larry had to interupt "...so you believe in God ... an all powerful creator ..." Bill responded yes, he believed in an all powerful, creator God but that he didn't believe in the bureacracy that went with religion. Can't say I agree w/ Bill's overall take on Christianity, but I do believe that his comments come from a wounded spirit and a hollow Christianity that we are all guilty of.
