Forced Blessing
The Strange Case of Balaam of Beor (Numbers 22-24)
Meanwhile, in the Promised Land... After long chapters devoted to Israel in the wilderness, we finally leave Israel altogether in order to gain a glimpse of what is going on inside the Promised Land. We find that God is at work behind-the-scenes, preparing the way for Israel, even when Israel is completely unaware and inactive. God's faithfulness to God's promise turns the desired curse of the King of Moab into a blessing for Israel. Nothing - not even human wickedness - can ultimately thwart God's will. We conclude by considering Balaam's forced blessing and its implication for ministry.
