An egotist can be someone whose self-esteem is too high—or too low. The ego may be overinflated, puffed up due to constant praise for some skill that is highly valued or in demand. Or the ego may be completely deflated, requiring constant self-promotion and outside affirmation to keep it afloat. If I am an egotist, I can be at either end of the spectrum; but both ends are still about me. What’s in it for me? How can I benefit?
